Why use PharmaHorse Electrolytes for your horse?
Whilst exercising, a horse will sweat and lose essential salts, also known as minerals. As well as when sweating, these are also lost through the urine and faeces. This is a point for attention particularly in hot weather for example in the summer. During periods of exertion in hot temperatures and humidity the loss of sweat can increase to as much as 15 litres an hour, it is therefore very important to replenish this quickly to prevent symptoms of deficiency. PharmaHorse Electrolytes is composed of the minerals: sodium, potassium, chloride, calcium and magnesium. These elements are present in exactly the same proportions as the composition of horse sweat.
- Sodium Chloride
Sodium helps to maintain blood pressure, which is important during exercise. During exercise a lot of sodium is lost through sweat. A lot of sodium is also lost through dehydration. PharmaHorse Electrolytes contains a high, safe dose to replace these losses.
- Potassium Chloride
As with sodium, potassium aids the osmotic action. In combination with sodium it helps to activate the sodium-potassium pump. This transport system is essential for the transmission of nerve impulses. Potassium is usually found in green grass. Stabled horses are often lacking potassium, which is why a supplement with sufficient sodium and potassium is essential.
- Citrates
C Citrates are negatively charged molecules that contribute to the buffer capacity of the electrolytes. PharmaHorse Electrolytes contains both bicarbonates and citrates - each strengthens the effect of the other.
- Magnesium Sulphate
Magnesium is an important mineral for optimum muscle function. It aids phosphate transport, which is important to facilitate maximum muscle performance. Symptoms of magnesium deficiency can include muscle tremors and muscle cramps.
- Calcium Carbonate
Calcium contributes to various processes, which are important for a horse to function optimally. For example, calcium is needed to guide stimuli to the nerves, for cell growth and it plays an important role in hormone regulation. In the electrolytes mix, the calcium helps facilitate the supply of energy to the body's cells.
- Glycine
Glycine is an amino acid and is an essential element in PharmaHorse Electrolytes as it ensures electrolytes can be absorbed quickly - fast absorption is often of great importance for good performance.
- Vitamin C
Vitamin C is an antioxidant, which helps to protect the muscle tissue during physical exertion. PharmaHorse Electrolytes contains this antioxidant with the aim of keeping a horse's muscles fresh for longer during exercise.
What happens when there is an electrolyte deficiency?
During periods of exertion or in hot weather, electrolyte deficiency can occur, this should be taken very seriously and can be recognised by the following symptoms:
- Reduced energy
- Muscle cramps
- Less elasticity in the skin (you can check this by taking a fold of skin between your thumb and forefinger, as soon as you let go this should disappear immediately. If that doesn't happen, it can be a sign of dehydration).
If one or more of the aforementioned symptoms occurs, it may be advisable to use a balanced electrolyte product.
Other Electrolyte Products?
PharmaHorse Electrolytes is not the first Electrolyte product available on the market, however it is one of the few products that is composed of 100% pure raw materials, which are also suitable for human use. PharmaHorse is distinguished by this purity. Furthermore, the product only contains active ingredients and does not contain any excipients, flavours or fillers.
Attention:
PharmaHorse Electrolytes contains essential salts: minerals. These should not be confused with salt lick or mineral lick, which is also composed of salts but not electrolytes.
